The new challenge for 2015 has been announced: From Lisbon to Madeira Island non-stop! A journey of almost 1000 km that is expected to last between 36 and 43 hours, including two nights crossing the deep waters of the Atlantic ocean.
With this new odyssey, Francisco Lufinha, will not only be the first person to connect the Portuguese capital to the Madeira archipelago Kitesurfing, but also attempt to break his own world record of the Longest Kitesurf Journey without stops.
Just like in the other challenges, the starting date of this odyssey will depend on the meteorological forecast given by the Portuguese Navy Office. However, the challenge is expected to occur between June and July 2015.
In this odyssey there are several risks and adversities that compromise the journey, from strong winds, big waves and lack of visibility to surprises such as the appearance of sea life or unexpected objects such as floating iron containers dropped by ships.
Overcoming this challenge, Francisco Lufinha goes one step further to achieve his main goal: connect all the Portuguese territory. In 2013 he already connected Oporto to Lagos and in 2014 the Savages Islands to Funchal (Madeira Island).
“The first two odysseys of the MINI Kitesurf Odyssey already tested all my limits, but in this journey everything seems extra difficult and new. All the physical and psychological training do not seem enough, I’ve been giving my best to overcome the difficulties and to achieve my goal of connecting Portugal Kitesurfing. I’ve been working very hard and my team (both at sea and inland) has also been giving its best. ”, said Francisco Lufinha.
